Today I would like to shed some light on the pearl-caring procedures. Pearls can be a little fussy and generally require a good deal of care from the jewelry owner. Most pearls are very soft and tend to gradually absorb things like perfumes, lotions or even acid from our bodies. This characteristic that pearls possess makes them lose their luster over time. To slow this process down, it is a good idea to put on pearl jewelry after applying lotion and/or perfume on our bodies and after it dries. Wiping your pearl jewelry with a damp soft cloth is another great habit to develop when handling the pearls. To restore pearls’ luster, you can even use a drop of olive oil on the cloth.
Pearls’ #1 enemy is dry and hot air. If kept under such conditions, pearls may become brittle and crack. So please, whatever you do, avoid blow-drying your hair while wearing your pearl jewelry.
You have to be cognizant of the way in which you store your pearls. If you throw your pearls in the box with the rest of your jewelry, you have to reconsider doing that. To avoid scratching, store your pearl jewelry at room temperature and in a separate breathable bag; do not use a zip-lock back as it prevents air circulation.
