Georgetown Jewelers has been a thriving and growing, independently-owned fine jewelry store for over 60 years. The idea of a jewelry store blossomed in the city of Chicago, Illinois, with Gene and Alice Chamberland, a young couple with a dream to own their own business. In 1950, they opened the doors to a small jewelry shop and established the roots to a successful jewelry business. After several years and some turmoil due to the Chicago riots in 1968, Gene and Alice decided to bring the basis of their business out to the suburbs.
They based their operations out of Wood Dale, a small but growing community, in 1968. The location was in the brand new Georgetown Square shopping center and was one of the first few businesses to establish themselves in the area. This is where Georgetown Jewelers received its name. With much eagerness, the surrounding suburbs grew around the store, growing the store's clientele as well.
While raising a family, Gene and Alice were able to achieve many successful years in the jewelry industry. However, the story of Georgetown Jewelers does not end with Gene and Alice. The store is currently run by their son, Scott Chamberland, and son-in-law, Michael Couture, who now operate Georgetown Jewelers as partners. Scott is a Graduate Gemologist and Certified Appraiser, and Michael is a Master Goldsmith, trained by both Gene himself and GIA goldsmiths. They are continuing in the legacy of excellent customer service and quality merchandise that was so important to Gene and Alice from the beginning. The continuing reputation of craftsmanship, value and community involvement has earned the trust and ongoing patronage of many people in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago, including many of the first few clients from the days of Georgetown Jewelers infancy.
Since receiving the responsibilities of owning a jewelry business, Scott and Michael have grown the business immensely. The store has experienced two expansions that have brought it to its current size of 3600 sq. ft. These expansions have allowed for a better-equipped and more productive manufacturing shop, which is managed by Michael. They have also increased the size of the showroom space, giving Georgetown Jewelers the opportunity to showcase well-known designer jewelry including Verragio & Simon G, and also maximize the selection of fine jewelry available to its clientele. All staff is trained through the GIA to ensure all the latest and most accurate information is available and being used every day.
The third generation has also begun to find its way into the business as well. The grandchildren of Gene and Alice, children of Scott and Michael, have all worked at the store as sales associates, some with continuing aspirations to continue in the jewelry industry. One of Michael's daughter's has found her career in the store and has now been an employee for ten years. She is currently responsible for tracking inventory and all pearl restringing for Georgetown Jewelers, helping in the efforts of keeping this family-owned business growing.
From Gene and Alice, who you can occasionally still find at the store, to the newest of employees, the continuing goal to become one of the most respected, trusted and knowledgeable jewelers in the Northwest Suburbs is evident in every aspect of Georgetown Jewelers. From all of us at Georgetown Jewelers, we invite you to become a part of this family heritage as we find new and exciting jewelry items, and explore better ways to serve you as a loyal customer now and in the future.
